THE GOOD ROOM IN THE HOUSE IN EDAM
The open fireplace was completely surrounded by Delft Blue tiles, each tile depicting a different biblical scene, and a picture of the house itself is shown in the center with a bird in a cage at either side.
Behind the curtains at the right was “my” cupboard bed, and the oil painting on the left depicts Opa.
THE GROCERY IN THE HOUSE ON THE CHEESE MARKET, around 1930.
Little Oma, her sister Aunty Immetje Compaen, Immetje’s daughter, and Opa. The ribbed cylinder above the shop door indicated that tobacco was cut to the customer’s requirements, either as chewing tobacco or pipe tobacco. Very popular were long ceramic pipes for the men to smoke, and short versions, which the kids bought to blow soap bubbles.
